Nuts and bolts
This is a recipe I got from my mom. Almost as important as the ingredients, I think, is the roasting pan. She passed this one on to me, and every year since I was a kid it has been full of nuts and bolts. Sometimes several batches of them.
I made mine on Christmas eve this year. The recipe is simple:
Start with a pound of butter (or margarine) in a 250 degree oven. Add in a wide array of salts in about 1 tablespoon per salt type. Seasoning salt, garlic salt, onion salt, celery salt. Add in a couple of tablespoons of Worcester sauce. Stir that up as it melts in the oven. When the mixture is all melted, add in your cheerios, shreddies, pretzels, and peanuts. A standard boxful of each. Stir thoroughly to ensure everything is equally coated. The proportions for the dry ingredients aren't that important. Bake for an hour and a half, stirring every once in a while.
