Blue Eyed Marys

My current favorite restaurant (http://blue-eyed-marys.com), an interesting dinner ahead, and jazz on the sound system. Mmmmm.

The menu changes here every month. This month there is a slow roasted lamb shoulder that is very good, apparently. I'm thinking I will either get that or the spicy BBQ chicken.

I figure - since I biked 10k today - I deserve an appetizer, too. The sweet pepper and fennel soup with black eyed pea salsa? Oh yeah.

For now, I am just waiting for my dinner companions. So I'll put away my phone and look civilized.

Lobsters

Although they were all there, waiting to be brought home in a nice little box, I just couldn't do it. That one in the centre, though, has such cute eyes. I think they would make a great pet. These are pets, right?

Pizza

Deborah made the tomato sauce, I made the dough (Marcella Hazan's recipe, see below) and we baked them on a pizza stone at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Perfect.

Pizza dough
3 c flour
2 t salt
2 t fast rising yeast
2 T olive oil
1 c warm water

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. When fully combined, dump onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes. Move to a bowl with a damp tea towel on top and place in a warm place for 3 hours.

Pizza sauce
an onion
couple of cloves of garlic
1 can diced tomatoes
table spoon of olive oil
dab of butter
small bit of chili peppers
some salt
some basil

The measures in the sauce part are rough, I'm afraid - Deborah does her thing by taste and sight.

The sauce is cooked down until it is thick and then you spread it on the dough (which you've flattened into two pizza circles), cover with chunks of ham and a couple of types of cheese - we used jalapeƱo Monterey and havarti because that is what was on hand.

Bread

A whole wheat and a white loaf today. They turned out pretty well, I think, but the real test will be in the morning, when I cut into them. Too tired now to eat bread, so letting them cool.
