Annoyance... 21st century style

My new twitter technique - write it on cards in a fountain pen and then take a picture. Sadly, my phone had limited "close up" capabilities, so this is a bit fuzzy. I'll do better next time. And, presumably, you'll know that when I speak to you next, right?

Twitter frustations

A friend expressed frustration at the inanity in Twitter and the vacuity in his newspaper's coverage of the "phenomenon." This is what I sent back to him:

I can understand your frustration. Media forms gradually come to resemble humanity itself, as they are used by more and more people. In a sense, it is inevitable that they become mundane and similar, since - on the whole - human beings are mundane and similar *in those things which they hold in common.*

The charm, mystery, and delight is finding those things which our fellow human beings do not hold in common, in finding the bits and pieces that are unique and insightful. In this, as much as in movies or even television, you can find quality by being demanding in your selection and ruthless in your editing.

Twitter can have value, but you have to invest in it to extract that value.
